Scope and Contents

The Jovana Brown Papers consist of correspondence, program materials, syllabi, program descriptions, publications, student evaluations of faculty, faculty peer evaualtions, self evaluations, professional developement materials, and materials relating to various campus government activities documenting Jovana Brown's faculty involvement from 1981 to 1994. The programs and group contracts that are documented specifically are Society and the Computer, Recreational Resources, Management and the Public Interest, Dreams: The Text of Thinking, Public Land Policy, Tribal Resource Development, Native Americans in the 20th Century, and State Tribal Relations.

Biographical Note

Jovana Brown received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at University of California, Riverside in 1959. In 1965 she received her Masters in Library Science, in 1967 she received her Masters of Arts in Political Science, and in 1971 she received her Doctorate in Library and Information Studies all from the University of California, Berkeley. From 1974 to 1981 she served as Dean of Library Services at The Evergreen State College. From 1981 to 1998 she was a faculty member at The Evergreen State College, where she taught courses relating to Library Science and Political Science. After retiring she was granted Emeritus status. In addition to her faculty positions, she participated in the following campus governance activities: Athletics Advisory Board, Dean's Search Committee DTF, Faculty Hiring Committee DTF, Computer Curriculum Advisory Group, Environment/Community/Technology Autobiography Collective, Faculty Advisors Group, Faculty Salary Study Group, Infraction Review Committee, and Management and the Public Interest curriculum planning group.
