Biographical / Historical

The Evergreen State College Women's Resource Center was created in the 1970s and existed until 2016 and was one of the oldest student organizations on TESC's campus. Its mission was to serve all women-identifying people and their allies. It housed a lending library featuring books on subjects ranging from Arts to Mental Health, to Sexuality, and Religion and a collection of zines that could be checked out. Along with the books and zines, the Center made available menstrual products, contraceptives, pregnancy tests, and provided referrals to resources on the campus and in the community.

The Center also published a quarterly zine called The Ovarian: Reclaiming the Feminine from 1999-2011 containing art pieces, poetry, artwork, discussions about gender and sexuality, and different themes. The Center ran events like poetry readings and potlucks as well as organizing self-defense classes and workshops on Bystander Intervention Training. As part of V-Day awareness, members of the Center put on Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues for twelve consecutive years. Proceeds went to different charities supporting women. In 2009 TESC student Sara Meister conducted research on the Women's Resource Center, arranged the collection and created an exhibition out of the work.
