Scope and Contents

The collection of Lowell "Duke" Kuehn includes notes, program materials, essays, and personal publications beginning 1963 and ending duing his time teaching at The Evergreen State College in 1991. Kuehn's interest in the sociology of crime and quantitative methods showed through in the over forty courses he taught during his time at both UC Riverside and The Evergreen State College, as well as in the subjects of his published papers. Also included is a law enforcement training manual titled "The Criminal Investigator's Guide" by Steven T. Kernes and co-authored by Lowell Kuehn detailing crime scene duties through the Department of the Interior's National Park Service.

Biographical / Historical

Lowell "Duke" Kuehn served as a sociology professor at The Evergreen State College beginning in 1975 and ending in 2007, when he retired. Before his time at Evergreen, he was also a teacher at the University of California Riverside up to 1975. Beginning in 1971 and continuing to his retirement, Kuehn taught a large number of classes on the sociology of crime and human behavior, as well as public policy statistics and their application to managerial positions. He also took on administrative tasks while serving as a director of the Masters of Public Administration (MPA) program at Evergreen's south campus in Vancouver, WA. Work on his personal publications continued throughout his time teaching, and focused on violent crime in the United States.

Abstract

This collection consists of notes, program materials, essays, and personal publications from Lowell "Duke" Kuehn's college years starting in 1963 and continuing up through his time teaching at University of California Riverside from 1971 to 1975, and later at The Evergreen State College from 1975 to 2007.

Arrangement

The Lowell "Duke" Kuehn Papers are divided into three series: Series I: Personal, Series II: Teaching, Series III: Governance.

Series I: Personal consists of personal essays, notes, and research, as well as Duke Kuehn's publications.

Series II: Teaching consists of courses taught by Duke Kuehn.

Series III: Governance consists of administrative correspondence and outreach, conference notes, evaluations, and marketing and enrollment plans.
